It’s raspberry season! Celebrate Raspberry Cream Pie Day by making a cream pie full of luscious ripe raspberries.
How to celebrate Raspberry Cream Pie Day.
1. Take your family raspberry picking.
August is raspberry season.
Take your family raspberry picking to get the freshest berries for your raspberry cream pie.
When I was a child, we used to pick wild raspberries. My grandmother knew where they were along all the local sideroads.
- it is a great childhood memory of summer – the sunshine, the smell of the ripe berries, laughing with my family
- I’m sure I ate as much as I took home!
- Sometimes there were bear families picking berries too
Of course, you don’t have to pick wild raspberries. There are berry farms in every locality.
In fact, you don’t have to pick them at all – just buy fresh-picked berries from them!
You also don’t have to have your child tramping alongside you. Let them pick a couple for fun, and then most berry farms have an excellent play area for them. (Because they don’t want them tramping alongside you either. *wink*)
2. Make a raspberry cream pie or tartlets.
The raspberry cream pie is an icebox pie with a custard center. It can have a traditional pie crust or a graham cracker crust. The raspberries can be incorporated into the vanilla custard or layered on the top of the pie.
