My brother hosts our family reunions every summer and cooks the most delicious beer can chicken. I don’t drink beer myself, so I never would have have thought about barbecuing chicken this way without his BBQ expertise.
(You can substitute your favorite soda, wine or fruit juice in a can for this recipe.)
Texas claims the honor of creating beer can chicken – one of the world’s juiciest, most succulent ways to cook a chicken. It’s easy, it’s fun and interesting to try, and it gets the accolades.
How to Cook Beer Can Chicken
Prepare a chicken for barbecuing as usual by removing the insides, wiping the skin with paper towel and season or add a rub to taste.
Open your choice of beer in a can (or soda, fruit juice or wine) and place the chicken on the can so it is inside the ribcage.
It is easier to use a beer can chicken stand to balance the chicken on the grill. Stand the chicken upright on an aluminum plate to catch the drippings.
Put the chicken on the grill and cook on low until the meat is just falling off, usually about an hour.
