Bacon roses are perfect for:
- Cheering someone who needs a smile for the day
- Letting a bacon lover know how well you know them
- Use a bouquet for that unique wedding!
Follow these 5 easy steps to make your own bouquet of bacon roses.
#1: Gather the Materials
- Bacon Slices – 6 regular & 6 thick sliced
- Plastic Flower or Rose Stems
- Mini Muffin Pan
- Broiler Pan
- Drill with 1/8″ bit
- Electrical tape (optional)
- Vase full of marbles, jelly beans (or other candy) or decorative stone for display (optional)
#2: Prepare the Pan
Drill holes in the bottom of the muffin pan. This will allow the grease to drain when cooking the bacon.
Place the muffin pan on top of the broiler pan to catch the drips.
#3: Prepare the Rose Buds
Open the bacon and begin tightly rolling the roses, one piece at a time. Start with the widest end of the bacon, with the fat edge down.
Use a combination of thick and thin bacon for a variety of rose shapes.
Place all of the bacon in the muffin pans pushing down slightly to “seat” them. The bottoms will flair out a bit.
Place in the oven and cook for 30-40 minutes. Check in on them occasionally. Sometimes you will have to lift the rose so the grease will drain out the pan.
#4: Prepare the Stems
While waiting for the bacon rosebuds to cook you can start working on the stems. The stems that work best can be purchased at Walmart in bunches of 7 for under a dollar each. Pull all the roses off the stems.
Pull the green backing off the rose and then separate it into individual parts.
Discard the petals and center red piece. Reassemble the remaining parts.
Force it down so that roughly 1″ of the stem protrudes.
When the stems are standing its easier to put the bacon rosebuds on the stems – and its easier to display after they’re made.
#5: Assemble Bacon Roses
You now have a variety of bacon rose buds to choose from for your bouquet.
Voilà! A luscious bouquet of bacon roses.
